I have experienced some failures along the way, primarily due to vine selection that was not suitable for the central Ohio climate. Pinot Noir, Gewurztraminer, and Cabernet Franc all failed to endure the winters. I have since replanted all of the failed vines using sweet, cold-hardy breeds, Niagara and Concord. My revised strategy is to get the pruning and growing practices refined using the more forgivable breeds, and then expand to include some more difficult plantings for my growing region.
